Shipping Information
Everything you need to know about how your live birds, hatching eggs, and supplies travel from our farm to your door.
Free Shipping Threshold
Standard supply orders of $1,000 or more shipped within the continental United States qualify for free ground shipping. Oversized freight items, hazardous materials, and live-bird shipments are excluded from the free-shipping threshold and are quoted separately.
Order Processing Times
- Supply orders typically leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days of order placement.
- Live-bird orders ship on the hatch week you select at checkout, not the week you place the order.
- Backordered items are noted at checkout with an estimated restock date; the rest of the order ships on time.
- Processing does not include weekends or federal holidays.
Live Birds — Chicks, Juveniles & Adults
- Day-old chicks ship via USPS Priority Mail Express in ventilated, insulated boxes.
- We ship Monday through Wednesday only to avoid weekend transit delays.
- Minimum order quantities apply so birds stay warm during transit — see each breed's product page for its minimum.
- A working phone number and email address are required. USPS calls you when the shipment arrives at your local post office for pickup.
- Juvenile and adult birds ship in larger crates with feed and hydration gel included.
Hatching Eggs
- Fertile eggs are hand-packed in foam cradles inside a double-wall box marked "Fragile — Hatching Eggs."
- Eggs ship USPS Priority Mail (typically 2–3 day service).
- We recommend letting eggs rest, pointed-end down, for 12–24 hours before setting them in the incubator.
- Hatch rates vary based on shipping conditions and incubation practices — see our Returns & Exchanges page.
Poultry Supplies & Equipment
Feed, medications, feeders, waterers, incubators, brooders, and small equipment ship via UPS Ground or FedEx Ground. Transit time is usually 2–7 business days depending on your distance from our warehouse.
Oversized & Freight Items
Large coops, walk-in brooders, and cabinet incubators ship via LTL freight carrier. You'll receive a call to schedule a curbside delivery window. Freight items require an accessible driveway; lift-gate service is available for an added fee.
Shipping Rates
Rates are calculated at checkout based on weight, dimensions, destination, and service level. Live-bird shipping is a flat rate per box and shown on each breed's product page.
Carriers We Use
- USPS Priority Mail Express — day-old chicks and hatching eggs
- UPS Ground / FedEx Ground — supplies and equipment
- LTL Freight — oversized coops and cabinet incubators
Order Tracking & Notifications
A shipping confirmation email with a tracking number is sent as soon as your package leaves our warehouse. Live-bird shipments include a separate notification with pickup instructions for your local post office.
Post Office Pickup for Live Shipments
- Chicks and hatching eggs are held at your local post office for pickup — they are not delivered to your doorstep.
- USPS will call the phone number on your order the morning the birds arrive.
- Please plan to pick up your shipment within one hour of that call. Extended time in a post office back room is stressful for the birds.
- Bring your ID and order confirmation to the counter.
What to Do When Your Order Arrives
- Open the box in the presence of a postal worker or, at home, with a camera ready.
- Count the birds and photograph the shipment before removing anything.
- Move healthy birds into a preheated brooder with fresh water and starter feed.
- Report any losses within 24 hours — see our Live Arrival Guarantee on the Returns & Exchanges page.
State & Regional Restrictions
- Some poultry medications and vaccines cannot ship to California, New York, or other states with restricted-product laws.
- Certain heat-sensitive items are held during extreme summer temperatures until conditions improve.
- Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories: supplies only. Live birds and hatching eggs are not available.
International Shipping
We currently do not ship live birds, hatching eggs, or feed outside the continental United States. Select small equipment can ship internationally by request — email us for a quote before ordering.
Holiday & Weather Delays
Live shipments pause during weeks containing a federal holiday to protect birds from extended transit. We also delay live shipments when extreme heat or cold is forecast along the delivery route, and will contact you to reschedule.
Address Changes & Reroutes
Address changes must be requested at least 48 hours before your ship date. Once a package is in transit we cannot reroute live shipments — please double-check your address at checkout.
Missing, Lost, or Delayed Packages
If your tracking has not updated in more than 48 hours or a package is marked delivered but not received, contact us right away. For live shipments, call us before opening any dispute so we can coordinate with USPS on your behalf.
